We are pleased to announce that Ms. Keedra Demus will be joining the Alexandria Court Service Unit on April 1, as Youth Services Coordinator with their Crime Prevention Team. Her primary roles will be to help divert youth from the juvenile justice system and to manage SOHO-Space of Her Own mentoring programs.
Ms. Demus brings a wealth of experience to the position. She has worked as Family Resource Specialist with Fairfax County, providing prevention services and guidance to vulnerable, at-risk pregnant youth and adults, and parents of newborns. She has also co-facilitated 20-member support group sessions for at-risk adolescents and their families with Loundon County’s Family Connections, developing service plans, and providing counseling, community outreach, and public relations.
Having earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Ms. Demus is currently working toward her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling with Capella University.
With her passion for serving teens, Ms. Demus is excited to work with the City of Alexandria, CSU, SOHO and our community partners. She is a compassionate family services professional who advocates for the health and well-being of children and families. An advocator of stability, she assists clients in increasing quality of life outcomes. Ms. Demus is a proponent of keeping children in the home and reunifying youth and families, as possible. An avid listener, Ms. Demus is dedicated to guiding and supporting clients in resolving family issues and thriving on their own terms. She strives to further improve her skills in working with youth and families, and to learn about the array of the programs and services offered within the City of Alexandria. She is also looking forward to planning activities and events for clients, and for our team.
Ms. Demus grew up in Northern Virginia and in her free time enjoys spending time with her friends and family. When not at work, you can find her outdoors hiking with her two dogs, at music/food festivals, and on random weekend trips.
